Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine (PGD-FM)
CHS-PGDFM 2 Eligibility
The minimum entry requirement is a recognised MBCHB degree and registration with the HPCSA as a medical practitioner. Candidates will be required to be practising in an ambulatory patient setting for the duration of the programme which is 2 years.
- FAME6AA: Foundations of Family Medicine and Bioethics ( 32 credits)
- FAME6AB: Maternal Child and Mental Health (32 credits)
- FAME6AC: Acute and Chronic Disease (32 credits)
- FAME6AD: Practice management and Communicable disease (32 credits)
CHS-PGDFM 3 Assessment
Each module shall be assessed separately.
Master of Medical Science (Family Medicine)
CHS – MMeed FM 1 Eligibility: Master of Medical Science (Family Medicine)
Candidates are eligible to apply for selection to register for the degree of Master of Medical Science (Family Medicine) provided that they hold;
- a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree; and
- have held such qualification for a period of at least two years prior to registration for the MMedSci (FamMed) degree.

Doctor of Philosophy (PHDMD)
CHS – FAMED 1 Eligibility for Doctor of Philosophy in family Medicine
Candidates are eligible to apply for selection to register for the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy in Family Medicine provided they have obtained a relevant Masters degree or a professional qualification deemed appropriate by the School.
