The Department of Family Medicine is a dynamic department at the University of KwaZulu Natal with a vision of establishing the Department as the leading Academic Department of Family Medicine in Africa. The Department strives to:
a) provide appropriate and continuous quality family medicine teaching and training (both undergraduate and post graduate) at centralized and decentralized (urban and rural) teaching sites
b) support high quality service delivery in the District Health System using a multidisciplinary approach and to
c) conduct high quality family medicine research that impact on the lives of individuals, families and communities.
d) To establish ourselves and continue as the Leading Academic Department of Family Medicine in Africa.
1.To provide continuous quality academic family medicine training (both undergraduate and post graduate) at centralized and decentralized teaching sites.
2. To develop and sustain learning and training complexes at decentralized rural district hospital complexes.
3. To support service delivery of high quality care at District hospitals though a structured outreach program and updates for Medical offices and Professional nurses.
4.To promote quality in health care via clinical audits and relevant applied research (quality improvement projects)
