More about Family Medicine
The Department of Family Medicine is a dynamic department at the University of KwaZulu Natal with a vision of establishing the Department as the leading Academic Department of Family Medicine in Africa. The Department strives to:
- provide appropriate and continuous quality family medicine teaching and training (both undergraduate and post graduate) at centralized and decentralized (urban and rural) teaching sites
- support high quality service delivery in the District Health System using a multidisciplinary approach and to
- conduct high quality family medicine research that impact on the lives of individuals, families and communities.
- To establish ourselves and continue as the Leading Academic Department of Family Medicine in Africa.
Our Mission
- To provide continuous quality academic family medicine training (both undergraduate and post graduate) at centralized and decentralized teaching sites.
- To develop and sustain learning and training complexes at decentralized rural district hospital complexes.
- To support service delivery of high quality care at District hospitals though a structured outreach program and updates for Medical offices and Professional nurses.
- To promote quality in health care via clinical audits and relevant applied research (quality improvement projects)
